Everyone knows that going to a festival can become very costly very quickly. You’ve got your ticket to pay for, shell out for transport, buy some new clothes, pay for food and drink while there… the list goes on. However, you can keep costs way down if you decide to join the festival staffing team. Here are three festivals you might want to put yourself forward as a volunteer for.

Boomtown Fair

Hampshire, August 11th-14th

Do something different this summer and volunteer at the Boomtown Fair. Here you’ll find 100 different stages in a made-up city, with the line-up including Damien Marley, Levellers and Fun Lovin’ Criminals. Expect to lend a helping hand at venues and campsites, as well as helping pick up litter.

Womad

Wiltshire, July 28th-31st

Roots Manuva, Les Amazones D’Afrique, John Grant, Charles Bradley and Ana Tijoux are all playing at this year’s Womad festival at Charlton Park. This is a great family-friendly event to volunteer for so give it some serious thought. There are dance workshops, a circus area, puppet making, yoga classes and a Spa Garden. Perfect!

Bestival

Isle of Wight, September 8th-11th

Bestival is one of the most fun events on the UK festival calendar – and perfect for volunteering since you’re leaving the mainland so it’ll feel almost as though you’re going on holiday. This year, expect to see The Cure, Major Lazer, Hot Chip, Fatboy Slim and more.

We’d love to hear about your experiences serving as a steward at a festival in the UK. Drop us a line in the comments to tell us all about it.
